Malena In the realm of horror movies, there has been a boom in recent years. With titles such as It Follows, Split, The Witch and Get Out dominating the market. The newest addition to this list is Malena. Released earlier this year on January 12th 2017 by Universal Studios from Asylum Entertainment Group's original screenplay by Ben Ketai and directed by Goran Dukic who also directed Insidious 2 & 3. In an attempt to start his career under a different name he took the name David Blaustein for this movie which was his grandfather's birthname. Although this movie has only recently been released, it has already gained a huge audience. A young girl named Malena (Elise Barry) moves in with her new husband Colin (Austin Abrams). After moving in, strange things start happening to Malena. She starts fire from fire places and overheating microwaves, even though she knows that she did not do it. These incidents get worse over time until finally Malena's husband can't take it anymore and he ends their relationship. Malena discovers that she has been manipulated into killing her now ex-husband. As she digs deeper into the mystery, she finds out that her husband was killed by a demon who took his body as a host and is now inside Malena's own body. Malena sets out to try and get rid of this demon but as she does, it gets harder and harder to do so, as the demon tries to protect itself from being destroyed along with everything it has taken control of. This movie starts off a bit slow because it's mainly just trying to establish the rules for this movie. It makes the viewer want to know what will be happening next as it keeps building up to the end. The story is mainly about a girl who finds out she is possessed by a demon. As she tries to find it and get rid of it, she finds that things keep getting in her way and that those around her want her dead as well. This movie has a lot of suspense and mystery but there are also some twists and turns in the plot as well, along with some good scares. This movie has an overall rating of 8.1/10. This movie is rated R for language, violence and some sexuality. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves horror movies.
